Would you live in the perfect house or apartment rent-free if you found out a brutal murder had taken place there and it was rumored to be haunted? Why or why not?

I would certainly want to live there. Rent-free is a very good deal. I believe in ghosts, although I am not sure whether 'ghost' is the right word. I live in a house right now that has a certain amount of paranormal activity. The ghosts, or spirits, or whatever they are, have no influence here on this plane. All they can do is move small things, although once one of them moved a chair. I don't believe that ghosts are instrinsically bad, nor do I believe that every death, brutal or otherwise, produces a ghost/spirit that wants to hang around. I'd like to know why they're hanging around. Don't they have anything better to do?

I'd have to answer No to the Writer's Block question. Not so much for the haunted aspect (because not all hauntings are malevolent) but because of the brutal murder. Rent free would be wonderful but not if the place made me feel uncomfortable. I need to live in a place that feels safe, secure, and comfy. I don't imagine the suggested dwelling would fit the bill for me.

Thanks Brit!

I would have the area spiritually cleansed and blessed if I felt even a hint of negative energy. I would put a crucifix there, too. The main thing I would do would be not to focus on the possibility of negative energy. We give power to the things we focus on. I periodically ask God for protection, anyway. I believe I would be all right.

Thanks for commenting! I'm very interested to hear other people's ideas and feelings about this topic. I don't normally participate in Writer's Block, mainly because I don't like the title. I've never experienced writer's block before.

I would live there, but I think I'd remodel the exact place where the murder happened. I believe what happens in a place stays with it(whether in the form of "ghosts" or something more abstract) and I'd feel more comfortable giving that area a fresh start.

It would be harder for me to visualize what had happened if the room were different, as well. Not that I'd want to visualize it, but I'm sure it would happen, if only our of morbid curiosity!

Plus...rent free would be an amazing thing--"perfect" apartment/house or not!

I think that remodeling the area is an excellent idea. A new coat of paint, maybe some media...

My practical heart jumped on the words 'rent-free' too!

I've lived in a haunted house before and then I had to pay rent and put up with my roommate's psycho girlfriend so I'd go for it as long as the reason the murder happened had nothing to do with the neighborhood or building security.

I agree there would be a very through cleansing first.

Yes, good point! If the murder happened because of external factors like murder being a regular occurrence in the neighborhood, or all the doors of the building having crappy, mickey mouse locks on them that anyone could pick, then I don't think I could live there, no matter how nice the place was, otherwise.
